Welcome!

It sounds scary, but we use Risk Assessment everyday, and it happens so fast we don't even realize we are doing it. When we push the snooze button just one more time, when we speed on the highway, when we choose the Big Mac over a salad or cross against the light, we are conducting quick risk analyses. In each case, we are evaluating the risk and taking a course of action based on our assessment.  So although Risk Assessment sounds difficult and foreign, it is so common that each of us does it everyday of our lives.

So how does risk assessment apply to the ongoing problem of dog bites? In order to identify dangerous dogs before they bite, all we need to do is to apply the risk management process to "problem" dogs to determine whether additional preventative measures need to be taken to protect society.

In response to growing global interest, and a demonstrated need, the International Society of Canine Risk Assessors (ISCRA) was conceived to be the preeminent international professional association and certification body for Canine Risk Assessors. After our 2008 launch, the organization focused on promoting the use of Canine Risk Assessment instead of breed-specific legislation (breed bans) to control problem dogs before they bit.  In 2010, we began drafting codes, policies, qualifications and professional programs necessary to support a well-designed and functioning organization for a credible and respected global membership of professionals. Achieving consensus on these aspects of the Institute required much effort on behalf of the many volunteers that supported us during this initial phase. We invite you to contact us if you have suggestions or questions, or if you would like to contribute to the ongoing development of these fundamental components of the Society. Also in 2010, we recognized the growing need for certified Service Dogs and Service Dog Trainers, and thus was born our Assistance Dog Division. In 2015, the organization was renamed the International Society of Canine Trainers and Assessors, to better reflect our expanding services.

We are confident that the mission and activities of the International Society of Canine Trainers and Assessors offers unique benefits to members and their stakeholders. Your involvement each step of the way is the key to the success for the Institute.

Sincerely,

Tamara Ann Follett, Founder of ISCTA, Developer of C-TAG, Author: "Dogs of Fury: The Solution to Dangerous Dogs"
